The history of Lindenhurst goes back to the mid 19th century when it was just a small farming community with a single post office. When the railroad came through in 1886, the area began to experience growth and prosperity. Ernest E. Lehmann owned what is known as the Lindenhurst farm. He was a rich landowner that came from a wealthy family. “Lindenhurst” comes from several rows of linden trees that lined the estate, and the farm was sold to a friend of the family several years later (Edna Siebel), and then it was sold to Morton “Mort” Engle who divided the 600-acre plot of land in 1952. A year later, Lindenhurst Estates came into existence, and homes began cropping up behind modern day Linden Plaza, and Lindenhurst was on its way to becoming a prosperous village. Engle continued to assist in the town’s development, and the spirit of the people living in Lindenhurst also helped this gorgeous region to grow. Many volunteered their time and effort into helping build a decent educational system, stores, shops, and more! Today, Lindenhurst has over 15,000 residents, and this village represents the American pioneer spirit that resided in our ancestors and lingers in each and every one of us to this day.
